Position Summary

Plan and execute regulatory and legislative programs to support Xcel Energy's corporate objectives at the federal level. Participate and provide leadership in industry organizations in the best interest of Xcel Energy and its business units. Anticipate and identify emerging issues and trends in the energy industry. Communicate to appropriate internal audiences. Mobilize internal resources for effective response, including the development of inter- and intra-departmental teams for creating public policy and operational priorities in key issues affecting Xcel Energy.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Direct lobbying elected officials and reporting of lobbying activities. Establish and maintain effective relationships between the company and members of congress and their staff and other public stakeholders involved in the process. Monitor and report on activities of congressional committees related to the Federal Affairs goals and objectives.

  • This role will be focused on Republican Members of Congress. A strong ability to build relationships with the Republican delegation

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal clients to allow for effective achievement of business goals and compliance with regulatory and legislative issues and recommend strategies that align with Xcel Energy's strategic objectives.

  • Represent Xcel Energy in interactions with trade associations, coalitions and ad hoc groups in support of established company goals and objectives. Work with internal stakeholders to influence groups to support Xcel priorities.

  • Anticipate, develop and ensure effective implementation of federal affairs strategy program that meets the needs of Xcel's operating companies and business units. Prepare supporting testimony for Xcel executives.

  • Develop and implement legislative strategies consistent with Xcel's policy objectives and jurisdictional needs; direct lobbying of elected officials and reporting of lobbying activities; establish and maintain effective relationships between the company and legislators and their staffs and other public stakeholders involved in the process.

  • Coordinate with head of Washington office in all aspects of company policy and business development and management of operating company assets and earnings. Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements
 

- Seven or more years of relevant experience in federal policy roles in the public or private sector, including at least some experience working for the U.S. Congress.

- Ability to articulate the interests and positions of Xcel Energy.

- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.

- Experience or demonstrated ability to advance policy at the Federal level.

- Undergraduate degree with emphasis in Political Science, Public or Governmental Affairs.

- Knowledge of the regulated utility industry preferred.

-Knowledge of jurisdictions of where Xcel Energy operates.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $122,000.00 to $173,933.00 per year
