Xcel Energy Plant Specialists play an important role maintaining plant equipment, performing operational checks and making operating adjustments. They typically work onsite at one of our power plants to operate and maintain the boilers, turbines and other equipment that keep the lights turned on and homes running smoothly no matter the season. Plant Specialists are attentive to detail, function well in team settings, and often work rotating schedules that may include nights, weekends and holidays. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and pass an Edison Electric Institute (EEI) test.
EEI Employment Assessment:
We partner with EEI for the employment tests required to assess technical proficiency for certain roles. These tests are administered via testing centers and help predict a candidate’s likelihood of success on the job by providing a clear measure of mechanical aptitude, mathematical skills, and other competencies.
The following tests are offered via EEI, with usage varying by location:
CAST: Construction and Skilled Trades
POSS MASS: Power Operator/Maintenance Selection System
TECH B: Technician Occupation Selection System
SOPD: System Operator/Power Dispatching Position
Meter Reader: Meter Reading
