As an apprentice lineman you will be taught a very rewarding career in constructing, maintenance, removal and storm restoration of high voltage transmission lines. Xcel Energy has a very reputable Department of Labor certified apprentice program that is recognized throughout the United States.

 

Summary
Position will be responsible for construction, maintenance and operations. Supports maintenance and emergency repairs of transmission lines.

 

Required

Must have a High School diploma or GED
Must have successfully scored on the Behavioral Assessment (all levels external) and EEI CAST Assessment if you're a 1st-4th Year

Journeyman candidates must take a written and practical journeyman test with Xcel Energy

MUST have a valid Class A CDL driver’s license including a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
Must be totally committed to safety, quality work and customer service
Must be able and willing to respond to after hour and weekend call outs
Position could possibly require travel for extended time periods
Apprentices are required to attend 2nd, 3rd and 4th year apprentice schools
Must be mentally competent, able to communicate and able to comprehend instructions and build on previous experience
Must exhibit a team work attitude and be able to work with others
Must be of adequate physical stature to
Lift and maneuver up to 90 lbs for extended periods of time consistenly throughout the day.
Climb wood poles up to 100' tall
Perform aerial work in a safety belt in a safe and efficient manner
Use shovels, sledge hammers and 90 lb jack hammers for extended periods of time consistenly throughout the day.
Work in confined areas
Must pass the federal DOT physical examination

Steps in Xcel Energy’s hiring process

  1. All qualified candidates will be sent an online assessment via e-mail. Applicants must successfully pass in order to be further considered.
  2. Candidates who successfully pass the assessment will be contacted to come in for an information session and interview.
  3. After attending our information session/interview, our Team Leaders will collaborate to decide which candidates are best qualified and offers will be made.
  4. Candidates who accept the employment offer will be required to pass Xcel Energy’s background check and drug test. This process can take up to two weeks before clearance is issued.
  5. After successful passing of the background check and drug test, candidates are ready to start the training class.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $26.43 per hour
