Position Summary

The Demand Management Coordinator is responsible for the lifecycle of application development and maintenance requests (“Demand”), including intake, prioritizing the requests against supply constraints, managing any demand backlog, and tracking and reporting on Application Managed Services (AMS) supplier performance. Also responsible for continuing process improvement to provide faster delivery of value to the business and better stakeholder experiences. The Demand Management Coordinator is the Demand Management process owner and reports to the Director of Supplier Management. They will work cross-organizationally to ensure their processes are lean, valuable to users and to the organization, and compliant. They will support the budget and expenses relating to their process or service, including forecasting and variance explanation activities. This person will be a key contributor in the management of the IT Department, ensuring that Xcel Energy optimizes their processes and services, and drives benefit and compliance across the enterprise. They will provide proactive internal compliance reviews to assess any potential risks. They provide first-level support in the event of any support or audit pertaining to their process or service(s).


*The below description and requirements are for the Demand Management I level within the IT Business Administration hierarchy, however this position may be filled at a higher level, which may have additional requirements. The successful candidate will be placed at a level that is commensurate with the candidate's skills and experience.*

Essential Responsibilities


  • Service Lifecycle: Manage intake of process requests. Process requests in a timely manner and provide high service levels to customers. Track and report performance of the process. Provide reporting to leaders to ensure awareness of volume, efficiency, and ultimately value of the process.
  • Operations: Responsible for forecasting costs and providing expense variance explanations. Works with leaders and stakeholders to establish budget for needed costs, and continuously seek ways to reduce cost. Reviews and renews related contract/maintenance agreements in a timely manner. Monitors related contracts for compliance.
  • Relationship Management: Serves as the initial and ongoing contact with customers and vendors/providers on process initiation and any subsequent issues. Is the primary contact for compliance and audit reviews of the process. Works closely with other organizations as needed to support and continuously improve their respective processes and services.


Manages the Demand process:

  • Designs, implements, and continuously improves an efficient, effective AMS demand-to-service delivery model and process with the Xcel Energy IT
  • Maintain a holistic, enterprise view of all work intake, available resources, and Xcel Energy IT’s ability to meet such demand (including via service providers)
  • Works with the AMS suppliers to ensure that Xcel Energy’s AMS Demand is communicated, understood, and incorporated into supplier’s resource forecasting plans
  • Assists with IT Governance and prioritization issues relating to business unit AMS demand
  • Works with Business Relationship Managers and AMS suppliers and other stakeholders to understand AMS Demand, variances, and unplanned needs
  • Works with Service Delivery Managers and AMS suppliers to understand AMS Demand backlog and address chronic backlog issues
  • Understands and works effectively within constraints (e.g., more demand than ability to meet, IT budgets, contractual terms, etc.) so that finite resources are appropriately allocated
  • Focuses on enterprise customer satisfaction related to Demand Management
  • Provides process training to all process stakeholders

Minimum Requirements



  • Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Science, Business or related field, or 4 years of experience equivalent to the position.
  • Five years of related functional experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated project, product or process management skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledgeable regarding Application Lifecycle Management.
  • Strong communication skills, effective with varying organizational levels and skill sets.
  • Strong Relationship Management and collaboration skills, with a track record of working as one team cross-organizationally to drive innovation and business results.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as an IT Business Analyst, Functional Analyst, or Application Service Demand Management
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Strong negotiation, facilitation, verbal and written communication skills
  • In depth knowledge of the Service Request, Forecast & Demand Management processes
  • Knowledge of contract terms relating to demand management

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $79,000 to $113,000 per year
