Claims Investigator, Team Lead Job

Position Summary

Support Legal Services by performing complex, sensitive investigations and providing litigation support related to major incidents, public/company and auto claims. Manage regional administrative staff for Claims Services. 

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Major Incidents - Oversee and conduct complex investigations for high profile major incidents, litigated matters, or cases where company facilities may be involved resulting in loss of life, personal injury, and/or serious property damage. Secure and maintain chain of custody of physical evidence. Lead and participate in joint investigations external investigators.
  • Litigation Support –provide litigation support throughout the process including testifying, strategic planning, data gathering, and participation in mediations, settlement conferences, and court proceedings for high profile cases. Work closely with legal counsel on all aspects of litigation.
  • Manage regional Claims Services administrative staff, provide development and training opportunities, and recommend compensation adjustments.
  • Risk Mitigation – Develop and deliver training to internal and external resources to ensure that first responders are trained to take appropriate action when an incident occurs for which the company may have legal liability. Identify gaps and provide recommendations for improved processes and training for internal employees and departments. Establish and manage effective working relationships/partnerships with internal and external customers.
  • Public and Company Claims and Settlement Payment for High Profile Cases. Determine liability and negotiate settlements with input from management and/or legal counsel. Ensure denial notification or payment is made to public claimants and that payment is received for damaged claims, and pursue delinquent damaged claim accounts.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Post-secondary education/training in investigations, general business, communications, engineering, and/or gas/electric utility preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years combined gas/electric utility and claims-related work experience, including at least 3 years gas/electric Utility Claims Investigator or equivalent required.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable federal and state utility laws/regulations (e.g., NESC, CFR, DOT, PUC etc.) required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work.
  • Advanced skills in conflict resolution and negotiation required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong knowledge of computer based-systems (e.g., RiskMaster, REA, OMS, CRS, WEBI, Word, Excel) required.
  • Travel required (e.g., site investigations, court proceedings).
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record and personal transportation required.
  • Availability to be on-call 24/7 on a rotational basis is required.

 

Position requires exposure to noise, dirt, orders, confined/restricted areas, hot and cold weather conditions.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $72,100 to $102,433 per year
