Xcel Energy is looking for talented and experienced Mechanic Specialist to join the Xcel Energy team in Denver, Colorado!
The starting rate of pay for this position is $47.77 hourly.
Selection criteria will also include an interview and pre-employment written and hands-on testing that will take place at a company training facility. The company reserves the right to close this posting at any time. This position will be working 8 hour day shifts.
Summary
Perform work on the Denver Steam Distribution System, performing maintenance and related tasks on underground steam main piping, and associated equipment located within underground steam vaults in streets of downtown Denver. Position also requires occasional work on all mechanical and related tasks at coal and gas fired, steam generating stations. Includes disassemble, inspection, repair and reassembly of all types of pumps, motors, pollution control, heavy equipment, vehicles and other associated shop equipment. Use precision measuring tools, perform alignment tasks and other technical support on mechanical systems. A CDL class B driver’s license is required. Applicants without the license will be provided training and testing following all DOT rules and regulations to obtain the driver’s license within the first 6 months of being awarded the position. Applicant will be required to complete a mechanic specialist assessment based on knowledge/principles and performance on math, machining knowledge, pump alignment, valve disassembly/inspection/reassembly, rigging, tools and other millwright skills.
Minimum Requirements
- Must have completed a Millwright Apprentice program or documented Mechanical Training.
- Must have CDL class B.
- Must be able to wear negative air respirator and lift 50 lbs
- Must be able to work in hot or cold environments, work in dusty and noisy environments, perform tasks that involve standing, bending, twisting and lifting for 10 - 12 hour periods and perform other physical tasks associated with operational and mechanical duties at a coal fired, steam generating stations
- Comfortable working in confined spaces.
- Position requires 8 hour days and some off shifts (nights & weekends).

- Candidates who accept the employment offer will be required to pass Xcel Energy’s background check and drug test. This process can take up to two weeks before clearance is issued.
- After successful passing of the background check and drug test, candidates are ready to start the training class.
