The below job summary and responsibilities reflects the duties of the Senior Energy Solutions Engineering level; Energy Solution Engineering level will differ as less skills and/or experience will be required. The successful candidate will be placed at a level that is commensurate with the candidate's skills and experience.
Summary
Plans and develops conservation programs that have unique requirements and have an important impact to Xcel Energy customers. Has full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing and coordinating of conservations programs that encourage Xcel Energy customer to use energy more efficiently. Provide technical guidance and review directly to customers, sales staff, and marketing staff; examine potential applications and recommend solutions. Leads and maintains expertise in specific technical areas and applies that expertise to maximize customer adoption of Xcel Energy conservation products.
Essential Responsibilities
- Review and take responsibility for the validity of larger, more complicated conservation program analyses in the assigned areas. This requires knowledge of the regulatory as well as internal rules and guidelines for the technical-financial models. Document and run technical-financial models ensuring they meet state and corporate guidelines. Ensure that projects will withstand regulatory scrutiny to validate rebate expenditures and maximize Company's investments.
- Provide guidance, training and education to internal staff, Xcel Energy Marketing and Sales, customers and trade allies on technology issues. Responsibilities include on-site consultation with customers on strategic program offerings, team with product development and program managers to improve and expand product and services offerings for conservation programs.
- Serves as the technical expert for Xcel Energy in specific assigned area for gas or electric conservation programs (HVAC, lighting, compressed air, energy efficient building construction, motors, controls, industrial processing, boilers, furnaces, recommissioning). Keeps abreast of new scientific methods and developments affecting Xcel Energy for the purpose of recommending changes in emphasis of programs or new programs warranted by such developments. Maintains expert, in-depth knowledge and understanding in assigned programs.
- Conceives, plans and conducts research of new technologies and applications to improve and expand Xcel Energy conservation offerings. Monitor federal, state and local energy-related codes to determine whether changes in efficiency levels affect current conservation program guidelines and how it might impact program performance.
- Leverage internal expertise to customer advantage by developing relationships with external networks of engineering and architectural firms, governmental agencies, industry associations and research firms. Consulting with customers as part of product delivery, customized customer consulting on project specific basis, and acting technical sales. Utilize these relationships to define undiscovered opportunities for customers.
- Plans, organizes and provides technical guidance and expertise on the work of other staff. Evaluates progress of the staff and results obtained, and recommends major changes to achieve overall objectives. Serves as a mentor to internal staff members.
Senior Energy Solutions Engineer Minimum Requirements
- BSME, BSEE or related engineering degree from an ABET accredited curriculum required.
- 8 years experience with energy conservation preferred in one or more of the following: energy engineering consulting, HVAC, lighting, compressed air, energy efficient building construction, motors, controls, industrial processing, boilers, furnaces, recommissioning.
- 1 year minimum of utility conservation program experience.
Senior Energy Solutions Engineer Preferred Requirements
- Licensed Professional Engineer certification
Energy Solutions Engineer Minimum Requirements
- BSME, BSEE or related engineering degree from an ABET accredited curriculum.
- 6-years minimum experience preferred in energy conservation strategies or related field and significant direct customer contact.
Energy Solutions Engineer Preferred Requirements
- Licensed Professional Engineer certification preferred.
- Experience preferred in one of more of the following: consulting engineering, industrial processes, technical sales and project management.
Energy Solutions Engineer: $79,000 to $113,000; Senior Energy Solutions Engineer: $90,000 to $127,332

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $90,000 to $127,333 per year
