Position Summary

Provides expert technical analysis, support and program ownership for the Radiation Protection department in Health Physics and Radiation Protection technology. Owner of and provides technical oversight to functional areas such as; dosimetry program, emergency planning, dose assessments, radiochemistry, radiological engineering, shipping, and ensuring NRC regulations and industry standards are maintained.

Essential Responsibilities

1) Perform technical evaluations of RP programs, procedures and associated controls. Acts as change agents to improve ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) via dose reduction iniatives and plant modifications. Analyze new guidance from regulatory bodies such as NRC, EPRI, and INPO. Compare programs to new standards and improve as necessary. Benchmark Industry and perform gap analysis. Work closely with groups such as Mods and Maintenance to foster progress on station modification and work to improve ALARA.

2) Develop new and review existing procedure that dictate radiological controls. Review Radiological Work Permits for technical adequacy. Review isotopic analysis, bio-assay results, and station isotopic mixes to determine impact on station RP controls, instrumentation, and dosimetry (Prepare 10CFR61 analysis and other isotopic analysis reviews. Determine effects of isotopic mixes on monitoring programs and equipment).

3) Perform dose assessments and calculations. Oversee and provide input to dosimetry control program. Review TLD results for accuracy and acceptability. Develop annual reports regarding TLD reports. Participate with Emergency Planning during drills, training, and scenario development.

4) Carry out refueling outage special assignments such as; dose tracking and ALARA reviews, function as area leads and coordinators. Develop and maintain dose reports during RFO’s. Oversee station ALARA principles and programs. Act in various outage positions such as, Drywell/Containment Building HIT Team Leaders and coordinator. Perform radiological/engineer calculations and safety evaluations. Oversee shipping processes.


Minimum Requirements

*Bachelor's Science in Health Physics with an American Board of Health Physics certification is required.

*BS in Engineering or Physics with 4 Health Physics courses with an American Board of Health Physics certification may be considered equivalent, or Master in Health Physics.

*Fourteen (14) or more years nuclear health physicist experience with four (4) or more years as a Sr. Health Physicist required.

*Recognized industry expert by one or more of the following means: Active participation and leadership in industry or professional society working groups; Published in professional society or industry publications: Presentations to industry and professional society working groups Industry or professional society awards and /or; recognition for achievement. Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access required.

*Emergency response team assignment may require living within 30 or 60 minutes from plant.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $90,000 to $127,333 per year
