Junior or above Technical Intern Job

During COVID-19 Pandemic this position may require the ability to temporarily work remote within the company service territory until company protocol dictates return to the office criteria has been met. Once authorized to work on site, the work location will be at one of Xcel Energy's office locations. 

 

Summary

The Transmission Business Intern will provide support to the Transmission Business Operations group. Transmission experience or knowledge is NOT a prerequisite for this position. The intern will gain knowledge and exposure to several of our transmission compliance regulations mandated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) through the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Standards. This internship includes assisting in supporting Transmission’s Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance program. Responsibilities to be developed during the internship will include the following: assisting in interpreting CIP compliance requirements, identifying internal controls and risks in new and/or current CIP compliance processes, assisting technical Transmission Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), gathering compliance data, tracking milestone activities, understanding Transmission’s CIP NERC compliance requirements and how we comply.

 

This is a long-term, paid position for up to 20 hours per week during academic periods and up to 40 hours per week during non-academic periods including summer and school breaks. Hours during academic periods can be flexible based on class schedule. This is a year-round, long term internship with intent to explore job opportunities after graduation (based on mutual interest and availability).

 

 Minimum Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college
  • Junior or above preferred
  • Must be enrolled in STEM program
  • Basic understanding in Cybersecurity a plus
  • Good organization, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work on project teams.
  • Must be approachable, flexible, customer focused, self-motivated, results and team oriented
  • Learns new tasks and develops skills quickly.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Ability to stay on part-time during the school year if offered
  • Junior level or above (as of Fall 2021) is preferred.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $19.20 per hour-$25.70 per hour
