Senior Attorney or Principal Attorney Job

Xcel Energy has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Attorney or Principal Attorney to join our team in Minneapolis, MN or Denver, CO.The successful candidate will be placed in this job family based on their qualifications. The description below reflects the responsibilities for the Senior Attorney. Higher levels within this job family may have additional responsibilities.

 

The successful candidate will advise and counsel management on a full range of issues concerning local, state and federal employment laws, including OSHA, Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, etc.   The successful candidate will also review administrative agency filings (EEOC, etc.), provide input on policy and procedure revisions, and provide strategic, practical advice regarding discipline and discharge decisions and workplace safety issues.  The successful candidate will also manage outside counsel retained for employment and occupational health and safety matters.

 

Summary

Provides legal counsel to Xcel Energy and its subsidiaries and manages outside counsel. Handles routine legal matters with minimal assistance from other attorneys, assists other attorneys with complex legal matters.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepares or reviews routine contracts, pleadings, briefs and other documents.
  • Provides counsel to Xcel Energy employees on legal, business, legislation, regulation and strategic matters.
  • Represents Xcel Energy in courts, regulatory agencies and other adjudicatory or adversarial proceedings.
  • Provides opinions on policy questions and legal implications of Xcel Energy operations.


Senior Attorney Minimum Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice in the state in which the position is located.
  • 3 years of practice in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or equivalent legal experience.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Practice experience in workplace safety and labor and employment law preferred.

 

Principal Attorney Minimum Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.
  • Must be licensed to practice in the state in which the position in located.
  • 6 years of practice in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or equivalent legal experience.
  • Practice experience in workplace safety and labor and employment law preferred.

 

Preferred

  • Employment experience and OSHA and labor relations experience 

 

During the COVID-19 Pandemic this position may require the ability to temporarily work remote within the company service territory until company protocol dictates return to the office criteria has been met. Telecommuting Policy: A plan has been created to officially rollout a hybrid work-from-home option that will take effect when it is safe to move forward to return to the workplace. This position will participate in this new policy.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: Senior: $100,000 to $142,000 per year; Principal: $116,000 to 164,666 per year
