Relay Specialist Job

We anticipate a need for one or more Journeyman Relay Specialist(s) to be located at our Rice Street Service Center in St.Paul, MN. The starting rate of pay is $56.15 hourly. The position will be posted for 15 Working Days from May 3, 2022 to May 23, 2022.

Summary

Relay Specialists respond on a 24/7 basis to address distribution level substation and distribution system requirements in the metro east territory. Additional responsibilities include support of the gas transmission system throughout MN, ND and SD. They perform routine testing and trouble shooting of substation protective relaying and controls for construction, routine condition assessments and system control center emergencies. They also provide support to our distribution system providing fault locating service and maintenance of several different devices on the distribution system.

 

The duties include but are not limited to: installing, maintaining, repairing, testing, inspecting, and calibrating control and protective relaying systems for substation equipment, using fault locating equipment and supporting cathodics and gas RMU work throughout the metro east territory.

 

Qualifications:

1. High school education, or equivalent.

2. This Journeyman classification requires four years of applicable Relay electrical construction and/or maintenance

experience achieved thru completion and certification of a four-year Relay apprenticeship program.

3. Physical demands include but are not limited to lifting, carrying, climbing, handling, kneeling, and reaching.

4. Required to work outdoors and must be able to work in manholes and vaults.

5. Must be willing and able to work considerable amounts of overtime.

6. Must possess a valid Minnesota driver's license & be able to operate NSP vehicles.

7. Thorough knowledge of electrical/electronics theory, equations and electrical test equipment.

8. Ability to learn computer software including but not limited to iTOA, SwitchPlan and SAP.

1. A high awareness of safety and compliance with company rules is required at all times.

2. Must possess strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

3. Must have the ability to read and understand logic, schematic and circuit diagrams.

4. Demonstrate a commitment to working productively and safely.
