Apprentice Rigger step 5 or above/Journeyman Job

This person(s) will be responsible for the safe disassembly and reassembly of large plant components using typical rigging tools. Must be able to operate overhead cranes and mobile equipment, maintain rigging equipment, fixtures and maintain rigging logs.



  • High school diploma or GED
  • Will be required to enroll and complete the approved training course as agreed to by the joint apprenticeship committee
  • Will be required to perform duties when necessary from scaffolds and catwalks in high and confined areas.
  • Will be required to function under written plant maintenance procedures as appropriate and document records as required by plant management.
  • May be required to accept temporary assignments at other plants, including nuclear plants, as directed by plant management.
  • May be required to meet screening requirements under NRC regulations.
  • Must be able to be respirator qualified
  • Must have the ability to intelligently communicate with plant personnel both verbally and in writing.
  • Must have a reasonable level of learning ability to develop basic understanding of power plant maintenance and procedures.
  • Must pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) MASS exam
  • Will be required to actively participate in training and retraining programs as directed by plant management.


For consideration all applicants must meet the requirements for the 5th apprentice step.


A condition of employment will be successfully obtaining and maintaining General Security Clearance and a Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access to Xcel Energy nuclear plants including successful completion of nuclear General Access Training (GAT) and the nuclear security screening process (typically consists of an alcohol/drug screen, a criminal history check, a psychological assessment, initial credit and background investigation and periodic credit & criminal history checks).
