Xcel Energy is currently seeking one or more individuals to fill the role of Chemist at the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant in Welch, MN.  This position will share responsibilities for the administration of the various Chemistry programs at Prairie Island. This position will report to the Chemistry Technical Supervisor.

 

This position is responsible for the coordination and planning of chemistry projects in Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, and Environmental programs. The chemist will provide technical oversight to chemistry programs as assigned. This position will provide technical guidance to the chemical technicians and provide support for process quality improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will perform most assignments independently on issues related to the Chemistry Department.

 

Experience:

  • Experience in PWR chemistry and operations is desired. Laboratory experience is required preferably in a nuclear power plant setting.
  • Experience with ODCM, REMP, radioactive effluents and Chemistry Lab QA/QC is highly desired.

 

Education:

  • A bachelor of science in chemistry or related field is required.
  • 10 years or more experience in PWR chemistry may be acceptable as equivalent degree.
  • Must live within 60 minutes to ensure proper implementation of Emergency Response plan.

A condition of employment will be successfully obtaining and maintaining General Security Clearance and a Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access to Xcel Energy nuclear plants including successful completion of nuclear General Access Training (GAT) and the nuclear security screening process (typically consists of an alcohol/drug screen, a criminal history check, a psychological assessment, initial credit and background investigation and periodic credit & criminal history checks).

  

Additional Information:

This is a bargaining union position. Must be available to work overtime on a regular basis and support the Emergency Response Organization. Chemist must maintain a residence within a 60 minute response time to the plant. Extensive overtime will be required during periodic maintenance outages including backshift support may be assigned. Some travel (<10%) may be involved for regulatory compliance meetings, training for maintenance of qualifications and knowledge, and participation in industry meetings and organizations.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $57.25 per hour
