Steamfitter-Welder Apprentice Step 5 or above/Journeyman Job

We anticipate the need to hire one or more Steamfitter-Welders(s) – Apprentice Step 5 & Above (IBEW 949) at the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant in Welch, MN. The starting rate of pay for this classification is $37.66 per hour.

 

Summary
Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair items such as machine parts and power plant equipment, according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders, using brazing and/or a variety of arc and/or gas welding equipment. Performs related tasks such as cutting and grinding.

 

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have a reasonable level of learning ability to develop basic understanding of steam plant maintenance and procedures
  • Must have the ability to intelligently communicate with plant personnel both verbally and in writing
  • Will be required to enroll and complete the approved training course as agreed by the Joint Apprenticeship committee
  • Will be required to function under written plant maintenance procedures as appropriate and document records as required by Plant Management
  • Will be required to perform duties when necessary from scaffolds and catwalks in high and confined areas
  • Will be required to meet screening requirements under NRC regulations

 

For consideration all applicants must meet the requirements for the 5th apprentice step.

 

A condition of employment will be successfully obtaining and maintaining General Security Clearance and a Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access to Xcel Energy nuclear plants including successful completion of nuclear General Access Training (GAT) and the nuclear security screening process (typically consists of an alcohol/drug screen, a criminal history check, a psychological assessment, initial credit and background investigation and periodic credit & criminal history checks).
