Position Summary
The Deputy Chief of Staff to the CEO drives the day-to-day alignment, orchestration and reporting of key strategic planning processes; the implementation, execution and support of specified Board of Director, CEO and Executive Committee operating mechanisms; the orchestration of the CEO’s internal and external stakeholder engagement plan; and the execution of key programs that support the CEO’s strategic business objectives. The Deputy Chief of Staff reports to the Chief of Staff to the CEO and has approximately 3 direct reports. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Drives the day-to-day alignment, orchestration and reporting for key strategic planning processes to the CEO and Executive Committee, including the company’s yearly and long-term strategic planning process, One Xcel Energy Way program, Risk Management reviews and other key CEO and Executive Committee governance processes. 
  • Ensures various participants meet process and reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Works closely with Strategy, One Xcel Energy Way, Risk Management and other key areas to align and standardize planning, reporting and decision-making processes across the company.
  • Establishes tracking and reporting mechanisms for strategic priorities and objectives and ensures priority and objective alignment across the organization.
  • Refines, adjusts and helps track progress for corporate incentives, working with HR and Finance, as well as ensuring alignment to Board approval processes. 
  • Coordinates with Communications colleagues to properly communicate company goals and metrics to internal and external audiences.
  • Supports the execution of Board meetings and key processes, including yearly meetings scheduling, agenda setting, meeting logistics, and related activities.
  • Oversees and produces key Board communications and regular updates including monthly updates and CEO reports, presentations and messages.
  • Coordinates directly with Corporate Secretary, General Counsel and Chairman/CEO to ensure all Board requirements are met.
  • Help establish the core meetings, meeting objectives and schedules for the CEO and Executive Committee.  Facilitates meetings as required and ensures proper meeting documentation, action item tracking, and follow up.
  • Ensures all meeting participants adhere to meeting objectives, principles and guidelines.
  • Assis in the manages and orchestration of all aspects of the meetings, including venues, meals, and audio-visual support. 
  • Supports the orchestration of the CEO’s internal and external engagement strategy, including integrated scheduling, correspondence review and response, and preparation and briefings for internal/external meetings.
  • Provides overall management for the Executive Leadership Team, including detailing group’s primary objectives, meetings, agendas, projects, and communications.  Coordinates with CEO, CHRO, and EC on ELT’s purpose, objectives, operating mechanisms, and success metrics.
  • Coordinates heavily with peers in the Executive Communications function to assess external engagement requests and supports successful execution of engagements.
  • Coordinates with CEO Executive Assistant to ensure schedule management and alignment.
  • Acts as a strategic partner and advisor to ensure initiatives continue to progress, identify gaps and opportunities and help teams move forward with clear plans and strong execution.
  • Oversees and manages special projects, ensuring they align with the company’s goals, objectives and vision.
  • Serves as a liaison between the CEO and other executives, employees, and external stakeholders.
  • Provides the CEO with critical information and analysis to support decision-making.
  • Attends meeting on behalf of the CEO as requested.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience 
  • Proven track record of expertise in project management, operations, planning and/or lead sigma.
  • Extensive experience in a leadership role, preferably within the public utility sector or a related industry.
  • Excellent communication, influence, collaboration and presentation skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with the public utility sector and its regulatory environment.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $189,500.00 to $240,166.66 per year
