With 1 in 10 new Xcel Energy hires being veterans, we recognize the value your military service brings to our workplace. We provide ongoing support for our veteran employees through a special on-boarding program for new hires and have a veteran’s Business Resource Group dedicated to sustaining awareness of issues of interest to veterans in our workforce. This group helps facilitate the quality of life for our veteran employees with numerous volunteer activities including the annual Memorial Day Flag Planting.

We utilize Troops to Energy Jobs, which honors our nations veterans by connecting them with careers in the energy industry and providing further training and support for energy jobs; Hiring our Heroes, a nationwide effort to connect veterans, service members, and military spouses with meaningful employment opportunities; and DOD Skillbridge, a program that supports transitioning service members through fellowships.

We offer on-the-job training through four-year apprenticeship programs, including Line, Substation, Gas and Energy Supply. It’s a great way to learn and earn on the job. Use your Post 9/11 GI Bill to supplement your income and housing during your apprenticeship, whether in a power plant or in the field.
