Xcel Energy’s Wisconsin Solar and Interconnection program team seeks an intern able to work up to 40 hours per week during business hours to assist in day-to-day program operations to ensure regulatory timelines are met and interconnection applications are processed in a timely manner. The internship will focus on collaboration with business partners and cross-functional teams, providing insight and experience with multiple facets of the interconnection process.

  • Activities performed by the intern, depending on interests and abilities, could include but are not limited to:

    • Coordination and production of program communications.

    • Mail, list, and response management.

    • Tracking of on-going interconnection applications.

    • Analyzing performance and key performance metrics.

    • Processing program requests and facilitating meter orders.

    • Special projects depending on interests and business needs.


  • Qualifications

    • Junior, Senior, or Graduate status in college.

    • Major in business, marketing, communications, or another related major.

    • Ability to work part-time (20+ hours) during the school year and full-time during the summer, up to 40 hours per week year-round.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

    • Good organization, attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    • Approachable, flexible, customer focused, self-motivated, results and team oriented.

    • Learns new tasks and develops skills quickly.

    • Interest in renewable energy preferred.


  • Minimum Requirements:

    • Must be enrolled in an accredited University or college.

    • Major or minor in Business, Business Management, Communication, or a related field.

    • Good organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    • Must be approachable, flexible, customer focused, self-motivated, results and team oriented.

    • Learns new tasks and develops skills quickly.

    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.


  • Preferred Requirements:

    • 3.0 GPA or higher

    • Ability to work part-time during school year if offered.

    • Junior level or above (as of Spring 2024) is preferred.

    • Strong Microsoft Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Excel skills.


The candidate should be able to work full-time during the summer and 15-20 hrs./wk. during a school semester.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $15.00 to $23.90 per hour

This position may also be eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays, Personal holidays
