Xcel Energy Distribution Department is looking to fill an Apprentice Lineman 1st-4th Year or Journey Worker position for our Seminole, TX location.
As an apprentice lineman you will be taught a very rewarding career in constructing, maintenance, removal and storm restoration of high voltage distribution and transmission lines. Xcel Energy has a very reputable Department of Labor certified apprentice program that is recognized throughout the United States.
Summary
Position will be responsible for construction, maintenance and operations. Supports maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution and transmission lines.
Apprentice Required Qualifications
- Must have a High School diploma or GED
- Must have a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class A) or ability to acquire it within 120 days of start date.
- Must have successfully taken the EEI CAST Assessment
- Must be totally committed to safety, quality work and customer service
- Must be able and willing to respond to after hour and weekend call outs
- Position could possibly require travel for extended time periods
- Apprentices are required to attend 2nd, 3rd and 4th year apprentice schools
- Must be mentally competent, able to communicate and able to comprehend instructions and build on previous experience
- Must exhibit a teamwork attitude and be able to work with others
- Must be of adequate physical stature to
- Lift and maneuver up to 90 lbs
- Climb wood poles up to 100' tall
- Perform aerial work in a safety belt in a safe and efficient manner
- Use shovels, sledgehammers, and 90 lb jack hammers
- Work in confined areas
- Must pass the federal DOT physical examination
- Must complete all questions in application and upload a resume for consideration.
- Must reside 20 miles from the Seminole Service Center
Journey Worker Required Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- To be considered at the Journeyman level, must possess a Journeyman Lineman Certification that is approved by the Department of Labor.
- Valid Class A CDL driver’s license including a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- Must successfully score on the Behavioral Assessment
- Must be capable of performing all aspects of electric distribution overhead, underground, construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Must be available for emergency call-outs as per a schedule.
- Must have effective communication skills (verbal and written).
- Position could possibly require travel for extended time periods
- Must be physically fit and able to lift objects up to 90 pounds, pass a physical examination and be able to perform strenuous physical labor under all types of conditions.
- Experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers and groundwork with utility line crew required
- A high awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules is required at all times
- Completion of an approved apprentice line program is required
- Must live within 20 miles of Seminole Service Center.
- Selection criteria may include testing and/or assessment.
- Must pass the Xcel Energy security and drug screening
- Journeyman must take and successfully score on an Xcel Energy written and practical exam.

Bargaining
The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $30.03 to $51.61 per hour
