Electric Transmission Wildfire Mitigation Intern

Project Description:
Working with a cross functional team of engineering, operations, and analysts to support wildfire mitigation efforts on the Transmission system in all Xcel Energy territories. The work may include entry level engineering and analyst tasks centered around mitigation technique reporting and analysis, data mining and benchmarking with other utilities and organizations, support of field and control center operational groups, and problem solving related to current and proposed mitigation techniques. Through practical operations experience and mentoring, a successful candidate will gain significant professional confidence and people skills.
Job Duties
Position will have a wide range of duties based on current wildfire mitigation programs and activities. These may include: Review and data analytics using asset, risk, and Geospatial data, coordinating and drafting of operational standards and guidelines, field observations of operational activities, industry benchmarking, review and updating of reports and company data sources, cross functional learning with groups within transmission, and development of new tools for operational use.
This position is for an immediate start. These positions may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel’s business needs.
Minimum Requirements
Current student, Junior status (as of May 2026).
Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
Able to commute to our corporate office, Denver, CO- Hybrid Schedule
Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the fall (up to 20 hours a week).
Preferred Qualifications
Coursework in electric power systems, risk analysis, data analytics, and programming are preferred.
