This position is posted as a hierarchy at the Fleet Asset Manager or Senior Manager level. Successful candidate(s) will be hired at the level that is commensurate with their skills and experience

Position Summary

Responsible for the design, development and execution of a fleet asset replacement strategy and plan for Xcel Energy's fleet assets within assigned jurisdiction. Fleet assets are comprised primarily of automobiles, light, medium, and heavy duty trucks, and power operated equipment. Develop fleet design standards that minimize total cost while meeting user requirements. Enhance asset utilization through rental options, maintain adequate equipment pool and redeployment of existing equipment. Collaborate with business partners to develop annual budget for procurement in support of the acquisition plan. Acts as liaison with investment recovery department for divestures of fleet assets and leads monthly forecasting process. Proficient in the development and deployment of a life cycle cost analysis to determine the optimal replacement schedule minimizing the total cost of ownership.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage 1,800 unit fleet of owned and rented assets. Ensure asset mix and location are appropriate to support operation's work functions. Propose/execute pooling and rental strategies to share fleet assets, optimally balancing functional, emergency availability, utilization, and cost considerations. Leverage reporting tools, identifying high and low use utilization assets, to maintain Xcel's optimal fleet mix. Facilitate scorecard metric reviews and utilization improvement projects. Deploy lifecycle analysis, such as Total Cost of Ownership models, to determine optimal asset replacement timing, while meeting capital budget requirements. Lead the development and implementation of a fleet asset annual plan. Accountable for final asset plan, collaborating to gather other inputs such as condition assessments, changing work functions, headcount requirements, supplier availability, and pricing. Update asset plan throughout the year and provide delivery forecasts to operations.
  • Validate and manages annual fleet capital and rental proposals. Establish an asset plan and leverages analytics to monitor and ensure annual spend is within budget. Collaborate with suppliers to reserve and set production schedules, partner with sourcing and purchasing to establish supplier relationship management programs, and ensure delivery timing matches budgeted spend. Provide monthly capital forecasts to business area finance.
  • Gather functional requirements and facilitates specification approvals with operations partners. Collaborate with suppliers to build detailed fleet asset design specifications. Ensure all vehicles and equipment meet established industry regulations as well as safety and design standards. Lead Standardization projects within assigned fleet area, facilitates standards meetings with operations, suppliers, sourcing, and safety teams. Document standards in consistent specification templates. Introduce new specification technologies to improve operation productivity and meet Xcel's alternative energy goals.
  • Collaborate with Fleet Standards & Performance & Fleet Operations team members to maintain standard operating procedures. Continuously improve operating procedures to enhance productivity, consistency, and transparency.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of contracted service suppliers to assures quality and cost/benefit of services provided. Develop strong relationships with key Xcel stakeholders at the director level: operations, business area finance, capital asset accounting, sourcing and purchasing, material coordination, and fleet operations.
  • Accountable for Fleet Management Information System content: supplier selection from sourced contracts and purchasing plans for buyers; initiate asset-specific financial record keeping of capital costs; enter asset identifying information, costs, warranty, and initial maintenance programs in partnership with Fleet Operations programs; upkeep of physical asset location and personnel assignments; enter and maintain specific asset capital and O&M financial accounting in partnership with business area finance; coordinate onboarding of new assets with fleet operations; liaison with investment recovery department for divestures of fleet assets.


Fleet Asset Manager Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field such as mechanical engineering, supply chain management, computer science, business, mathematics, finance, or accounting, etc. and five years of experience in accounting, finance, Supply Chain, or business planning/consulting; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years experience in acquisition and disposal of fleet vehicles.
  • Mechanical experience beneficial.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Fleet management tools highly desirable.

Posted Salary Range: $71,900 to $102,900


Senior Fleet Asset Manager Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field such as mechanical engineering, supply chain management, computer science, business, mathematics, finance, or accounting, etc. and five years of experience in accounting, finance, Supply Chain, or business planning/consulting; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years experience in acquisition and disposal of fleet vehicles including experience working at a gas or electric utility.
  • Mechanical experience beneficial.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Fleet management tools highly desirable.

Posted Salary Range: $82,800 to $117,600

Preferred

  • Experience working with light, medium and heavy duty vehicles with complex utility upfitting.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $71,900.00 to $117,600.00 per year
