Position Summary
Directs the effective implementation and monitoring of initial and continuing nuclear operator training which includes classroom, simulator, and OJT training in accordance with existing NRC, INPO, and station expectations, guidelines, and regulations. This position is responsible for the oversight of all current and future nuclear control room simulators, simulator staff, and associated accreditation standards and regulatory compliances. This position is responsible for the preparation, conduct, administration and oversight of all NRC Exams to include the biennial written, annual operating, and initial written and operating exams. Additionally, effectively manages implementation and monitoring of training programs in other areas of training such as: emergency preparedness, general business, etc., as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manages the effective implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of operator training programs, including simulator and regulatory functions, to meet the training needs of all Nuclear Generation and appropriate other department personnel assigned to the nuclear site, to include:
- Provide oversight of the analysis, development and evaluation of training program instructional materials that assure the utilization of the systematic approach to instruction.
- Ensure training classes in assigned functional areas are being conducted across the fleet according to company and INPO guidelines to support INPO accreditation and NRC approval of the training programs.
- Manage the review and monitoring of the fleet performance improvement activities to identify training deficiencies.
- Evaluate company and industry events and ensure appropriate lessons-learned are effectively incorporated into training.
- Remain abreast of INPO accreditation standards, NRC regulations and commitments, and company training standards.
- Provide technical expertise in the implementation of training procedures, processes, and station-specific training programs.
- Consult with station management and recommend training action plans.
- Oversee the development and implementation of periodic, annual operating and biennial written examinations. This includes preparation for the biennial NRC 71111.11 " Licensed Operator Requalification Program and Licensed Operator Performance" inspection
- Oversee the development and implementation of NRC initial operating and written examinations. This includes preparation and administration of the audit examination.
- Ensure regulatory and accreditation compliance per Regulatory Guide 1.149 " Nuclear Power Plant Simulation Facilities For Use In Operator Training, License Examinations, And Applicant Experience Requirements," ANSI 3.5 " Nuclear Power Plant Simulators for Use in Operator Training and Examination," NRC inspection procedure IP 71111.11, NUREG 1021 "Operator Licensing Examination Standards for Power Reactors,", and ACAD 02-001, "The Objectives and Criteria for Accreditation of Training in the Nuclear Power Industry."
- Perform administrative supervisory requirements for simulator staff and NRC exam writers.
- Oversee NRC Licensed Operator license applications and renewal activities including periodic assessments of program compliance.
- Supports the ongoing operations of the sites and is jointly accountable with site personnel for the sites meeting their excellence plans.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 10 years work experience in Nuclear/Technical Instruction Techniques or Nuclear station experience
- Possess or have held a PWR or BWR SRO / RO license or SRO certification.
- Experience with configuration control, maintenance and testing of a control room simulator.
- Experience with regulatory requirements associated with control room simulators and NRC exams. Candidates should have experience in developing NRC written and operational exams.
- Previous supervisory experience and demonstrated leadership skills in past positions.
- Knowledge of INPO accreditation requirements and the systematic approach to training.
- Previous nuclear instructor experience preferred.
Preferred Requirements
- 5 years leadership experience in nuclear or utilities field.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $125,900.00 to $178,766.00 per year
