The Geospatial Electric Transmission department at Xcel Energy is seeking candidates for a full-time GIS Intern in Minneapolis, MN. The successful candidate will assist in legal description mapping, data creation and preparation for utility features, suitability modeling and site location analysis along with database maintenance.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Create, prepare and maintain GIS layers, applications and data sets for various projects.

• Translate legal land descriptions and Public Land Survey System (PLSS) data to cartographic representations.

• Work with GIS team to develop data standards, program goals and maintenance procedures.

This position is for a June 1, 2026 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

• Working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography or GIS

• Current student, sophomores and higher

• Completion of GIS I or an equivalent course

• Experience producing maps using ArcGIS, Pre: Adobe Illustrator and other mapping-related software

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)

• Reliable and able to prioritize and work independently"

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $17.00 to $27.20 per hour
