Summary
We are looking for a graduate business intern to join our Regulatory department at our 790 S Buchanan building in downtown Amarillo, TX! The successful candidate must be able to work 30-40 hours per week during the summer and 10-20 hours during the school year. This is a paid position.
The ideal candidate will be able to assist with utility industry and market research, working closely with experts in the Regulatory department as well as business areas across Xcel Energy. Primary tasks include (but are not limited to) market analysis, product research, document review and summarization (abstract or brief), analytical work supported by project teams, as well as record retention. The intern is encouraged to find efficient ways to complete tasks in an organized manner.
The ideal candidate will be able to assist with the development of regulatory projects and the execution of regulatory case filings before the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission and the Public Utilities Commission of Texas. Examples of regulatory projects include rate cases, certificates of need, investigations, compliance filings, and tariff and pricing proposals.
An intern in this position will learn how to apply project management principles to regulatory case management as well as how to navigate the development of regulatory initiatives in the dynamic policy environment of a regulated industry. The candidate can expect to coordinate with other members of Xcel Energy’s regulatory department as well as colleagues in operations, legal, resource planning, accounting, finance, treasury, business development, and other areas of one of the nation’s largest utility companies.
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a master's degree preferably in Business, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or a related field as of January 2024.
- Experience and/or coursework in pricing, accounting, finance, and economics.
- Experience in research, data review, and analytics.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint).
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Must be available 10-20 hours per week during the school year and 30-40 hours per week during summer.
- The ability to work a hybrid work schedule and must live within a commutable distance from 790 S Buchanan St., Amarillo, TX 79101.
- Current driver's license.
Preferred
- Able to commit to the internship for 6-12 months.

Non-Bargaining
The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $23.90 per hour
