Position Summary
Xcel Energy is seeking a candidate to support Purchased Power activities within our CFO Organization, specifically, in our Business Development department in Denver, CO. The paid internship provides an opportunity to highlight your abilities in one of groups that supports various business units throughout the company. The program provides practical work experience to develop your existing skillset, present to senior leadership, and collaborate with key internal stakeholders. Each intern will be relied upon to play a role in achieving department objectives and goals. The program will allow you to apply what you have learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands on training and provide opportunities to network and learn with other interns across the CFO organization.
Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Supporting contract negotiation of new Purchased Power Agreements (PPA’s) that secure large scale generation resources including wind, solar, hydro, natural gas and storage
Administer, coordinate and manage existing PPA’s, including but not limited to researching contract obligations, verifying proper calculation and distribution of billings and payments, monitoring project performance, administering security deposits, insurance requirements, and contract notifications, managing facility outage and maintenance scheduling as well as administering other ancillary contractual documents and obligations
Utilize guidance and assistance from senior team members, legal counsel and other departments to assess and analyze contract and project risk balance and ensure risk mitigation
These positions may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel’s business needs.
(Starting pay is based on Sophomore college level and will increase each additional year of college)
Minimum Requirements
Current student, sophomore status or higher
Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering, Business or Finance
Able to commute to the corporate office in Denver, CO
Able to work full-time during the summer
Strong analytical, organizational, team and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher

Non-Bargaining
The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $18.40 to $27.20 per hour
This position may also be eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays, Personal holidays
Pay and benefit packages may vary based on position. Some employees are under collective bargaining agreements, which determine the benefits they will receive.
