Project Description: 

Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support Gas Distribution Operations in Lakewood, CO. The paid internship provides an opportunity to showcase your abilities at the Kipling Service Center. The program provides practical work experience to develop your existing skillset, present to senior leadership, and collaborate with key internal stakeholders. Each intern will be relied upon to play a role in achieving department objectives and goals. The program will allow you to apply what you’ve learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands-on training and provide opportunities to network and learn with other interns across PSCO Gas Operations. 

  

  

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

  • Participate in the monthly financial close process. 

  • Contribute to FERC, SEC, governmental and internal reporting. 

  • Assist with updates, data maintenance, and analysis. 

  • Assist with SOX control reporting. 

  • Handle WO reconciliation, mapping, meter order updates, uploading locates/permits, and restoration follow-ups. 

  • Manage leaks, update grades for foremen, verify and track repair status, readings, and cleanup. 

  • Review documentation uploads and ensure completion of job briefing forms, as-builts, permits, and locate tickets. 

This position is for a June 1st, 2026 start date. These positions may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel’s business needs. 

Minimum Requirements 

  • Current student, Junior or Senior status (as of Fall 2026). 
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a bachelor's degree in any field or related. 
  • Able to commute to the service center in Lakewood, CO- In-Person 
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the fall (up to 20 hours a week). 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience or Proficiency with Microsoft Excel

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $17.80 to $19.00 per hour

This position is eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays
