Wildfire Risk Mitigation Data Engineer

Position Summary:
This role involves developing and maintaining data pipelines, integrating various data sources, database optimization, and supporting the development of predictive models to enhance our wildfire risk mitigation efforts.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and optimize data pipelines to support wildfire risk mitigation initiatives.
- Integrate data from various sources, including weather stations, remote sensing, historical fire data, and third-party weather forecasts.
- Collaborate with meteorologists, fire scientists, and other stakeholders to ensure data accuracy and relevance.
- Support the development and implementation of predictive models for wildfire risk assessment.
- Conduct data quality assessments and implement data validation processes.
- Provide technical support and training to team members on data-related tools and processes.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in data engineering, atmospheric science, and wildfire risk mitigation.
- Work closely with data scientists, data analysts, and other data consumers to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in data engineering, preferably with a focus on atmospheric science, risk assessment, or wildfire risk mitigation.
- Proficiency in SQL and database optimization techniques
- Skilled in programming languages such as Python and R
- Experience in developing and running big data applications using Scala.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience working with Databricks Platform for data processing and analytics.
- Hand-on experience with data integration, ETL processes, and data pipeline development.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of wildfire risk mitigation strategies and tools is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of meteorological data and weather forecasting models, and associated data formats (e.g., NetCDF, GRIB, GRIB2).
- Experience with machine learning and predictive modeling techniques.
- Experience working with raster and vector data formats, spatial data structures, and distributed computing for data processing.
- Familiarity with GIS and spatial data analysis.
