Director of Network Operations will build and manage the Service Delivery and the Network Operations Control functions for the Enterprise.  Director Network Operations is responsible for the secure delivery of all network based services. Candidate will oversee multiple teams that contribute to establishing the foundational network infrastructure & services critical to the enterprise. Anchored by a  24X7 Network Operations Control Center (NOC) that is accountable for end-to-end, monitoring, health and repair of all network connectivity and a Service Delivery Organization that is responsible for the delivery of all network based services, including vendor circuit connectivity for wireline, wireless, Wi-Fi, microwave and Land Mobile Radio services. 

Essential Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Attract, recruit develop and retain a qualified and motivated staff. Communicate corporate and business area visions, business plans and key objectives. Establish and communicate clear performance expectations. Foster a culture that supports and drives employee engagement and a business owner mentality.
  • Relationship Management - Develops and sustains strong relationships with BU leadership, with minimal direction from sponsoring executives. Serves as primary point of engagement for demand planning and demand management with BU; coordinates communication across other IT areas. Skilled in gaining cross-organizational support and influence.
  • Manages business component of IT planning for Network Operations. Participates in BU planning activities. Builds and manages 5-year rolling Network plan and comprehensive cross-functional strategies. Leverages internal and external networks to continually identify improvement opportunities.

Network Operations Center:

  • Direct the information technology operational processes to ensure business unit and corporate decisions are in alignment with Xcel Energy's operating, security, and reliability policies and objectives. This requires balancing business unit autonomy with enterprise economics, maintaining objectivity and credibility with stakeholders in each department, business unit, subsidiary, and all technology providers. This responsibility is essential to generate decisions that maintain a reliable technology environment at the most optimized cost.
  • Responsible for developing and directing strategies, policies, & procedures that ensure the 24 by 7 reliability of Xcel Energy's corporate network infrastructure. Communicating the impact and status of ongoing problems to its business customers and internal organization in a timely and transparent manner.

Service Delivery:

  • Implement designs and operational processes to function at the highest level in technical coordination, project management, planning, scheduling and controlling all Enterprise Network projects and initiatives.
  • Manages identification, investigation and solving production problems, including preventative measures and appropriate communication to clients regarding resolution. Has in-depth knowledge of assigned BUs; drives ongoing improvements in service delivery performance.
  • Monitors IT budget/forecast within network; identifies gaps; develops/implements gap closure plans. Drives improvements in allocating discretionary IT dollars to maximize value. Coordinates shift of priorities based on business goals and budget changes. Serves as executive coordinator for assigned IT projects. Participates in project reviews; steering committees meetings; identifies risks and provides effective risk mitigation.
  • Work closely with Field Operations, Engineering, Business Partners and Finance teams to ensure correct accurate delivery of services meeting established targets.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the NOC to ensure all engineering, testing, turn-up and break fix activities are delivered with minimal impact to the Enterprise.
  • Coordinates activities of personnel to ensure network engagements progress on schedule and within budget. Area of responsibility include: Core Backbone, Wide Area Networks, Local Area Campus and Office networks for all Network services.


Minimum Requirements

 

  • Bachelor's degree in business, IT or related field or equivalent experience; Masters degree preferred.
  • Sound understanding of core business processes, industry trends, technology and IT environments.
  • Ten yrs of integrated utility, regulatory business and IT systems experience.
  • Eight yrs of experience in service delivery, direct business engagement, and multi-technology domains.
  • Ten yrs of system implementation related project management experiences with five yrs managing development projects and development staff pursuant to enterprise level system deployment.
  • Must have experience developing end-to-end solutions.
  • Exceptional communication, time management and critical thinking abilities.

 

Preferred

  • Experience working in a telecom environment
  • Experience working in a large enterprise
