Position Summary
As a Senior Product Owner at Xcel Energy, you will be responsible for improving outcomes in some of our most important customer journeys. You will be accountable for working with stakeholders and customers to build out your product vision and objectives, creating the work and driving your team to successful value delivery. Through the successful application of agile principles, customer listening, coordination with technical partners and strong communication you will bring to life the digital experience for our customers and employees at Xcel Energy.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy and development for one or more Xcel Energy digital experiences, providing scalable and best in class capabilities. Responsible for delivering value in their respective products and have accountability for enabling financial and non-financial outcomes aligned to corporate objectives. The Senior Product Owner is expected to be able to work with senior level stakeholders from across the business to find solutions that help drive business goals. Can effectively budget, manage and execute on the strategy.
- Responsible for creating the product vision by synthesizing user research and market trends to understand where key digital products need to go to meet customer and business expectations. Work with experience, architecture, customer insights and product managers to align on vision. Define measurable objectives and corresponding KPIs to guide team progress and work selection.
- Clearly set standards and define features and stories for development team(s). Conduct backlog intake grooming, refinement cadences and ensure agile best practices are being followed and that an objective approach to prioritization is being executed. Regularly demo your work to stakeholders and senior leaders and use their feedback to drive decisions. Work with scrum masters and delivery leads to ensure silos are being broken down and work is done efficiently.
- Engage with end-users, business owners, and/or customers to understand their needs and changing expectations. Build product specific testing plans, ensure that process is being followed and feedback is being incorporated into prioritization and designs. Give feedback to customer insights team to constantly improve our voice of customer program.
- Communicate and sell your vision to development teams to ensure that the team know the value they are delivering and the context for what they are building. Be the problem solver and expert that keeps your team on value. Facilitate events like storming exercises, feature mining, deep requirements elicitation or other innovation techniques to bring value from technology.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, project management, design or related fields or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in business, marketing, project management, product management, or 4 years of direct Agile product management experience.
- A strong collaborator with a proven ability to build and maintain senior level relationships.
- Ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences and break down complex scenarios.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including decision making through ambiguity and influence on immediate and longer-term strategies.
- In-depth knowledge with Agile process and principles (Scrum, Kanban).
- Proven success working with cross functional teams and stakeholders on large strategic and product management initiatives.
- Experience implementing customer and/or employee digital solutions and processes.
Preferred Requirements
- MBA is preferred.
- Experience delivering large‑scale customer or employee digital experiences in complex, regulated environments (e.g., utilities, financial services, healthcare), balancing customer outcomes, operational reliability, and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated strength in outcome‑based product management, including defining OKRs/KPIs, using customer and performance data to drive prioritization decisions, and clearly articulating tradeoffs to senior leaders.
- Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed organization, partnering across product management, experience design, architecture, engineering, and business teams to align strategy and execution.
- Experience leading product discovery and customer listening activities (e.g., qualitative research, usability testing, experimentation) and translating insights into actionable product strategy and delivery plans.
