Director, Fleet Operations

Position Summary

Directs strategic Fleet Operations business plan processes, drives Fleet operational effectiveness, provides performance governance for Fleet Operations across the operating companies and all Business Units to maximize achievement of customer satisfaction, workforce deployment/development, operational and financial performance. Provides leadership on Fleet Operations & Maintenance projects/initiatives, partnering with other functions to improve current and implement new processes. Leads key/critical fleet projects, including Fleet Telematics, its programs, deliverables, reporting, enhancements and serves as liaison with key business partners Enterprise wide.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for safe, efficient and optimized asset management of 6500 unit fleet in 48 staffed maintenance facilities as well as providing service to 26 satellite locations along with support to 1000 unit fleet remotely dispersed performing utility construction activities.
  • Strategically, tactically and collaboratively integrates the organization's business plans, goals, metrics, initiatives and budgets while aligning with corporate strategic goals and objectives. Meets financial and budget responsibilities.
  • Develops leadership including a comprehensive succession plan, while selecting and maintaining a safe multi-functional, diversified, well-trained, motivated and empowered bargaining and non-bargaining workforce.
  • Create, modify and administer the development, enforcement and the execution of fleet policies and procedures. Provides leadership in new product and equipment design and standardization, and in the development of programs that will optimize vehicle utilization and minimize life cycle cost. Leverages numerous technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with numerous federal, state and local laws, regulations, codes, ordinances, North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria, including the DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements to ensure a safe operating fleet as well as the Commercial Drivers that operate the fleet
  • Represents the corporation nationally through participation in industry/ professional forums in order to stay abreast of industry direction and new technologies.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, in business or engineering preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Five or more years management experience that includes management of bargaining unit employees.
  • Ten or more years fleet experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, and excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $129,000.00 to $183,200.00 per year
