Position Summary
The job summary below and responsibilities reflects the duties of the Health Physicist or Senior levels will differ as more skills and/or experience will be required. The successful candidate will be placed at a level that is commensurate with the candidate's skills and experience.
This position is responsible for providing technical analysis, support and program ownership for the Radiation Protection department in Health Physics and Radiation Protection technology. Provides ownership and oversight to areas such as; dosimetry program, emergency planning, dose assessments, radiochemistry, radiological engineering, shipping, and ensuring NRC regulations and industry standards are maintained. Supports the ongoing operations of the fleet and is jointly accountable with fleet personnel for the fleet meeting its excellence plan.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform technical evaluations of RP programs, procedures and associated controls. Act as change agent to improve ALARA via dose reduction initiatives and plant modifications.
- Develop new and review existing procedures that dictate radiological controls. Review Radiological Work Permits for technical adequacy.
- Review isotopic analysis, bio-assay results, and station isotopic mixes to determine impact on station RP controls, instrumentation, and dosimetry.
- Perform dose assessments and calculations. Oversee and provide input to dosimetry control program.
- Carry out refueling outage special assignments such as; dose tracking and ALARA reviews, function as area leads and coordinators.
- Perform radiological/engineer calculations and safety evaluations. Oversee shipping processes.
- Participate with Emergency Planning during drills, training, and scenario development.
Minimum Requirements
Health Physics
Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Science, or Engineering. Master's degree in Health Physics, Radiation Protection, or Radiological Engineering preferred. American Board of Health Physicists "CHP" certification preferred. Some applicable Health Physics experience is required; for example academic research, internship, or cooperative experience.
Senior Health Physics
American Board of Health Physicists "CHP" certification preferred.BA, BS or MS in Health Physics or have a BS and certification by the American Board of Health Physics preferred or BS degree in Engineering or Physics with applicable Health Physics experience.
